ABOUT DR. KOGAN

Dr. Mia Kogan is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, the George Washington University School of Medicine, and the Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Kogan completed her residency training at the Georgetown University Hospital where she served as the psychiatric chief resident and treated adults with multiple psychiatric issues, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, peripartum disorders, and comorbid medical issues. In 2002, Dr. Kogan joined the Georgetown University faculty, where she teaches medical students and residents in mood disorders by using a problem-based learning approach that integrates medicine and psychiatry.

At this time, Dr. Kogan cares for patients in her private practice located in downtown Washington, DC. She has served as the consulting psychiatrist for the Washington Psychiatric Society, and continues to serve as a liaison in disaster preparedness to the Embassy of France. Dr. Kogan recently served on the Board of the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington for three years and joined the Board of the Carrie Simon House in 2014. Dr. Kogan also is a long-time treating psychiatrist for undergraduate and graduate students through the Student Mental Health Services at Georgetown, American, and George Washington Universities. Dr. Kogan remains an active teacher and mentor of students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Kogan is board-certified through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Recently Dr. Kogan was awarded “Superdoctor” and “Patients' Choice.” Dr. Kogan was named in Washingtonian Magazine as a "Top Doctor" and has been honored by the Consumers Research Council of America as one of "America's Top Psychiatrists."

These teams may include counselors, therapists, internists, neurologists, obstetrician/gynecologists, endocrinologists, neuropsychological testers, nutritionists, and other experts throughout the area. Dr. Kogan can promptly and easily refer you to these experts. These vital relationships within the community allow for the seemless transition of patient care, and for the feeling of a connected and dedicated team, as the team participants have often been working together for many years.


CONSULTATIONS

Dr. Kogan regularly provides consultations to prepare individualized treatment plans. Depending on the issues and severity, Dr. Kogan will provide a personalized plan with options. The patient decides which options are best suited to meet his or her needs and goals. In some cases, referrals are made to outpatient psychiatric programs or inpatient psychiatric programs.
